Berkeley Alexander, general insurance provider to the mortgage and intermediary market, has hired two people in its team.

Berkeley Alexander said the hires confirmed its commitment to building a “robust talent pipeline” and its new approach to recruitment.

Ellie Salmon has been appointed commercial account handler. She joins from Green Insurance, where she was in a similar role.

She also previously worked at Gallagher for two years as an associate account executive. Prior to that, she was at Hastings Direct for nearly three years, first as a fraud investigator and then a customer care specialist.

Salmon has five years of experience in delivering insurance and risk solutions across multiple commercial disciplines including directors and officers, motor, legal, expenses, property and liability insurance.

Salmon has held roles where she was responsible for handling large books of business and delivering client service to advisers and intermediaries.

Berkeley Alexander has also appointed Oliver Platts (pictured) as a broker.

Platts previously worked in the recruitment industry as a research consultant for William Alexander, where he specialised in recruiting for insurance.

In his former roles, Platts developed relationships with insurance businesses and gained an understanding of their needs.

Geoff Hall, chair of Berkeley Alexander, said: “Attracting young talent into insurance careers has long been a challenge for the industry. We take a different approach here [that] continues to attract the best and brightest. Whilst we continue to recruit experienced staff from the insurance industry, we also recognise and tap into a wider range of knowledge, skills, and expertise from outside the sector.

“Add this to our apprenticeship scheme and delivery of growth and learning opportunities, and we’re clearly taking a holistic approach to recruitment, helping shape rewarding careers in insurance and building the next generation of leaders.”

Hall added: “We warmly welcome Oliver and Ellie to the team and cannot wait to see them achieve their ambitions.”

Berkeley Alexander was established in 1980 and provides its services to more than 3,500 firms in the UK.
