Handelsbanken has appointed Steve MacDonald as its national head of intermediary business to help extend its proposition.
In the role, Handelsbanken said MacDonald would be “extending and evolving the bank’s offering for intermediaries on both residential and commercial mortgages”.
MacDonald has worked at Handelsbanken for around 12 years, beginning as a branch manager initially in Queen’s Park, then in Kensington and Chelsea for around a decade.
He was most recently the national intermediary strategy lead and has spent the last two years developing its proposition for residential mortgage brokers.
Prior to Handelsbanken, he was company director at PCF, a commercial finance brokerage, for around eight years. Before that, MacDonald was business development director at Royal Bank of Scotland Business for around three years.
He previously spent two decades at NatWest in various senior roles.

Handelsbanken was founded in Sweden in 1871 and became a fully licensed UK bank in 2018.
MacDonald said: “Handelsbanken has been working successfully with intermediaries for many years, but we took the decision to develop this still further – and make it a key piece of our offering. Having spent the last two years developing our strategy, I am delighted to now have the chance to launch it nationwide.
“In taking up my new role, I plan to bring even greater focus on the importance of the broker channel in the delivery of our ambitious growth aspirations – and, externally, to support our branch network in raising the profile of our intermediary proposition in their local areas.
“This role brings together my passion for the local relationship banking. This is something Handelsbanken delivers so well through our branch colleagues, who are empowered to make nearly all of the decisions that affect our customers – and prospective customers – alongside the dynamic and ever-evolving broker industry that I was proud to be a part of for almost a decade of my own career.”
