This week Mortgage Solutions is speaking to Kerrin White, business development manager (BDM) for Bath Building Society.
What locations and how many advisers and broker firms do you cover in your role?
Our BDM roles are nationwide rather than a specific area, I’m responsible for some of our clubs and networks such as L&G and Primis.
What personal talent/skill is most valuable in doing your job?
Good organisational skills and multi-tasking are key to arranging my diary, plus being able to put a piece of work down and start something else if some urgency is required.

What personal talent/skill would you most like to improve on?
I’d like to improve my languages, I am re-learning French from school and starting to learn Spanish.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
Saying no to a potential new case.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the variety and the travel. BDMs may not travel to some of the most picturesque places, but we certainly get to visit lots of places in the UK.
How do you keep up to date with developments in the market?
I keep in touch with BDMs via WhatsApp groups and other lenders and industry magazines.
What is the most quirky/unique property deal you’ve been involved in?
It was a semi-commercial building that contained an art gallery and apartment above.
What was your motivation for choosing this career?
It was a logical progression for me as I had worked in other parts of the mortgage industry beforehand. I was a broker and an IFA in a past life.
What did you want to be growing up?
I wanted to be a train driver when I was 12.
What is your strategy for tackling challenges?
Dealing with them quickly, if it’s bad news it does not get any better by waiting.
