The Green Finance Institute (GFI) has hired Chloe Timperley (pictured) as its green mortgage campaign lead.

The GFI that the green mortgage market has grown from four products on offer in 2019 to over 60 on the market at the moment, but said that such products had “huge potential”.

Timperley will continue the GFI’s work in the space, including the development of its Certificate in Green Mortgages, which offers training on opportunities offered by green finance solutions.

The certificate was launched in April this year and aims to “help educate mortgage professionals to understand, define and sell green mortgage products”.

Timperley was most recently a senior policy adviser at the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) for around two years, where she led the cross-industry green mortgage advice initiative and spearheaded the Working in Mortgages diversity and inclusion (D&I) programme.

Prior to that, she was a paraplanner and technical content writer at Robertson Baxter for around three years.

Before that, she was at Thomas Heald for nearly four years, most recently as a client communications manager, and before that, she was a communications and compliance assistant.

Emma Harvey-Smith, chief of staff at the GFI, said: “The GFI’s Built Environment Programme is developing and delivering the consumer finance products needed to decarbonise homes and green the UK’s housing stock.

“We need a diverse range of financial solutions, accessible to the vast range of homeowners, to make homes more energy efficient, resilient and adaptable to a changing climate. Green mortgages can play a vital role [in] the decarbonisation of Britain’s homes and we are delighted to have Chloe join our team to drive forward our work to grow the green mortgage market.”

Timperley added: “The GFI has done a fantastic job of driving the mortgage market toward more green lending for UK homeowners. The mortgage industry has a key role to play in decarbonising the UK housing stock, and I’m thrilled to carry this work forward as green mortgage campaign lead, as we work to decarbonise the built environment at pace and scale.”
